When taking photos with an iPhone, certain settings will change the way your images are saved. While they can be opened on your computer, many websites will have trouble displaying these photos, particularly the Academy's Learning Management System.

To resolve this for photos you have already taken, you will need to convert these images before uploading to your classes. Those steps are below, but if you would like to prevent this from happening in the future, you can change your camera settings.

Camera Settings:

HEIC is a high-efficiency image file format, so adjusting your settings will cause your files to be larger in size. However, changing your settings with this method will make your photos more compatible across different websites, including in your classes. To make changes to your settings, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Camera, and then choose the option "Formats" from the list.
  3. Choose Most Compatible, which will save new photos in standard JPEG format.

Converting on MAC:

On a Mac computer, you can convert your photos to standard JPG using Preview. Use the following steps to convert:

  1. After moving your photos to you computer, open the files in Preview. This is typically the default, but you can right-click or control-click your image and select "Open With" and choose Preview.
  2. In the top toolbar, click File, and then choose the Export option.
  3. Choose where to save the exported photo and the filetype (jpeg or png), then click Save.
  4. Your file will be converted and saved to the location you chose.

Converting on PC:

On a PC, you can use the Windows Photos app to convert your files.

  1. Move your files to your computer, then right-click the photo and select Open With and choose Edit with Photos
  2. Once in Edit, you can click "Save a copy" at the bottom right.
  3. Choose your file location, and make sure you have "Save as type:" set to JPG.

Once you have converted your files, you should be able to upload to your class without any issues displaying
